Installing Bookmark Manager
Pick the download for your system, run the installer, open it in your browser.
Which download?
| System | Download |
|---|---|
| Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) | bookmark-manager-version-win-x64.zip |
| Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, RHEL, Rocky, Alma, Arch, openSUSE… (Intel/AMD) | bookmark-manager-version-linux-x64.tar.gz |
| Alpine (Intel/AMD) | bookmark-manager-version-linux-musl-x64.tar.gz |
| 64-bit ARM Linux (for example Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit) | bookmark-manager-version-linux-arm64.tar.gz |
Each download has everything it needs; you don't install .NET or anything else first. The installer tells you if you picked the wrong one.
Windows
- Unzip the download.
- Double-click
install.cmd. (Or in PowerShell:powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install.ps1.) No admin rights are needed. - When it says it's running, open
http://localhost:5280/— it's also in the Start menu as Bookmark Manager.
It installs for your Windows account in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\BookmarkManager, starts in the background every time you sign in (no window), and keeps your bookmarks in %LOCALAPPDATA%\BookmarkManager. To use another port, run install.ps1 -Port 8080.
Linux, just for you
tar xzf bookmark-manager-version-linux-x64.tar.gz cd bookmark-manager-version-linux-x64 ./install.sh
Run it as yourself, not with sudo. It installs to ~/.local/lib/bookmark-manager, starts with your desktop session (a systemd user service, or desktop autostart where there's no systemd), and adds Bookmark Manager to your app menu. Open http://localhost:5280/. Your bookmarks are in ~/.local/share/bookmark-manager.
Local installs listen on this computer only and have no sign-in. Nobody else on your network can reach them.
Team server (Linux server, VM or LXC)
One install for the whole team. Any Linux distribution with systemd or OpenRC works; one processor, 1 GB of memory and a few GB of disk are plenty. A standard Debian 13 Proxmox container works out of the box (unprivileged is fine).
tar xzf bookmark-manager-version-linux-x64.tar.gz cd bookmark-manager-version-linux-x64 sudo ./install.sh --server
- The installer creates a
bookmark-managerservice account, installs to/opt/bookmark-managerand starts a service that comes back after reboots. On Alpine it also installs the few libraries it needs. - Open
http://server-address:5280/. The first visit asks you to create the first admin account. - Add your team under Manage users, and enter the license key there.
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Settings (port and more) | /etc/bookmark-manager/bookmark-manager.env — restart the service after a change |
| Data and nightly backups | /var/lib/bookmark-manager |
| Log | journalctl -u bookmark-manager (systemd) or /var/log/bookmark-manager.log (OpenRC) |
| Restart | systemctl restart bookmark-manager or rc-service bookmark-manager restart |
Use --port 8080 to pick another port, and --data-dir /path to keep the data somewhere else.
HTTPS
The app itself speaks plain HTTP, which is fine on your own network. To reach it from anywhere else, put it behind a reverse proxy that handles HTTPS — Caddy, nginx, Traefik or your firewall's proxy — and set BookmarkManager__TrustForwardedHeaders=true in the settings file so sign-ins and links use the right address.
Updating
Download the new version and run the installer again the same way (install.cmd, ./install.sh or sudo ./install.sh --server). It replaces the app and keeps your bookmarks, accounts, settings and license. Any changes to the data are applied when it starts.
Uninstalling
- Windows: Settings → Apps → Bookmark Manager → Uninstall.
- Linux:
./install.sh --uninstall, orsudo ./install.sh --server --uninstallfor a server.
Your data is kept so you can reinstall later; delete the data folder yourself if you don't need it. Before removing it for good, use Settings → Deactivate here (or Manage users on a server) to free the install on your license key.
