Using Bookmark Manager
Everything the app does, screen by screen.
Importing your bookmarks
- Export your bookmarks as an HTML file. In Chrome, Edge and Brave: Bookmark manager → ⋮ → Export bookmarks. In Firefox: Bookmarks → Manage bookmarks → Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML. Bookmark Ninja and most bookmark services have an HTML export too.
- In Bookmark Manager open Settings → Import bookmarks, choose the file, pick where the folders should go, and click Import.
Folders, tags, notes and the date each bookmark was added come along. Folders that already exist with the same name are reused, and a bookmark is skipped when the same address is already in that folder, so importing the same file twice doesn't duplicate anything. Settings → Export bookmarks downloads everything in the same format.
Folders, tags and views

- Folders nest as deep as you like. Use + next to Folders for a new one; hover a folder for sub-folder, rename/move and delete. Drag a folder onto another to move it.
- Bookmarks: Add bookmark fills in the page title for you. Drag a bookmark onto a folder in the sidebar to move it, or drag it among the others to change the order (with sorting set to My order).
- Tags: type a tag in the bookmark dialog and press Enter to create it. Click a tag in the sidebar to see every bookmark with it; the gear next to Tags renames and recolors them.
- Grid or list, and sort by your own order, name, date added, most used or address — in the top bar. Your choice is remembered.
- Search covers names, addresses, notes and tags in all your folders. Press / to jump to the search box.
- Open all opens every bookmark you're looking at in new tabs. If only one opens, allow pop-ups for the site in your browser.
- Select lets you tick several bookmarks and move, tag, untag or delete them together.
Start page and quick open

- The start page shows pinned bookmarks (click the star on any bookmark), the ones you open most, and what you added lately.
- Quick open: press Ctrl+K (⌘+K on a Mac) on any page. Enter opens the bookmark in a new tab; Ctrl+Enter opens it and keeps the box open.
- From the address bar: the app offers itself as a search engine. In Chrome, Edge or Brave open Settings → Search engine → Manage search engines, activate “Bookmarks” under the inactive shortcuts and give it a keyword such as
bm. In Firefox, right-click the address bar and choose Add “Bookmarks”. Then typebm invoicesin the address bar.
Environment badges
When an address contains a word like dev, test, uat, stg or prod — as in app-dev01.example.com or …/sites/Files-STG — the bookmark gets a DEV, TEST, UAT, STAGE or PROD badge; addresses on your own computer get LOCAL. Only whole words count, so “devops” isn't DEV. If a guess is wrong, open the bookmark and set Environment to the right one, or to No badge.
Sharing folders (team server)

- Shared folders appear for the other person under Shared with me, with everything inside them.
- View: they can open the bookmarks. Edit: they can also add, change, move and delete bookmarks and sub-folders inside it. Only you can rename, move, delete or re-share the folder itself.
- Everything else you have stays private. Admins manage accounts but can't see anyone's bookmarks unless they're shared with them.
Clean up
The broom in the top bar opens Clean up:
- Check all links visits each of your bookmarks in the background and flags pages that are gone, sites that don't answer, and links that now permanently send you somewhere else. Sign-in pages count as working. Flagged links are listed under Link problems in the sidebar. On a team server the check runs from the server, so internal addresses the server can't reach show as unreachable.
- Duplicates lists bookmarks that point at the same address; keep the oldest with one click.
- Tags: merge two tags into one, and delete tags no bookmark uses.
Backups
A copy of the whole database is made every night (or soon after start if the computer was off) and the newest 14 are kept in the backups folder inside the data folder. Back up now makes one any time; Restore puts one back without stopping the app, after first saving a backup of the current data so you can undo it.
On your own computer they're in Settings → Backups and can be downloaded. On a team server they're under Manage users → Backups and can't be downloaded in the app, because each backup holds everyone's bookmarks; copy them off the server's disk for safekeeping.
Users (team server)
Admins open Manage users (the people icon) to add people, make them admins, reset a password, disable or delete an account. Disabling or resetting signs that person out everywhere at once. There's always at least one enabled admin. Everyone can change their own name and password in Settings.
Your license
| Plan | Users who can sign in |
|---|---|
| Personal | 2 |
| Family | 4 |
| Business | Unlimited |
Every key is for one install: your computer, or one server everyone signs in to. Each plan includes every update to the version you bought and a discounted upgrade to the next major version.
- Users are the accounts that can sign in to a server. When the limit is reached, Manage users shows it and won't add more; disabled accounts don't count. A computer install has one user, so every plan covers it.
- Activate: paste the key from your receipt email in Settings → License (on a team server: Manage users → License) and click Activate. It needs the internet once.
- It re-checks the key once a day and keeps working for 30 days without a connection.
- Without a valid license — none entered, a refunded key, or no check for 30 days — your bookmarks stay: you can still view, search, open, edit and export them. Adding and importing new bookmarks are turned off until a key is entered or checked again.
- Moving to another computer: click Deactivate here on the old one to free its slot, or free it from your Lemon Squeezy My Orders page if the old computer is gone.
- Refunds: the 14-day money-back guarantee refunds you right away; the key stops working afterwards.
The full terms are in the Software License Agreement.
